Just did a guest post at Search Cowboy’s, titled “Ad hijacking:integrate off- & online advertising” a topic very close to me. You can read the post at the Search Cowboy’s web what I wanted to say here and to underline the problems facing marketer not remembering the Internet crystallizes in the Patrick Dempsey advertisement for L’oreal. As Bos send me the email that the post was I out I was located at a SuperDrug store in London trying to find “oinments” for my face I saw this stand at the store.
A great way of gaining quality inbound links is through link-baiting, that is get people to link to you through the type of content you have on your site.
Here are couple of ideas:
1. Whitepapers and research
2. Interviews and Reviews
3. Tools or Plugins
4. Tips and Advice
Giving people thins is always good and will gain attention, people that then like what you are giving will link-to your give-aways and recommend them. By getting people to link to you through link-baiting you will grow links naturally and hopefully equally so prominence in organic search results.
When you create a link-building strategyit’s vital that you have this in mind but also that you can compliment these efforts by requesting links directly from site owners or through forms if you are looking for links at directories such as Dmoz, JoeAnt, Randburg and so on. Through the years I have been creating multilingual link-building campaigns mixing together link-baiting, link-requesting, online PR, social media bookmarking and link exchange to mention few of the techniques out there, with good success for well over one hundred clients over the past 10 years or so. The lates version of YWA is out, it’s actually the first version of the YWA after they bought Indextools and it’s called Yahoo Web Analytics 9.5. There have been some issues with the data micration, but now that the tool is through I can’t say anything else that I am liking the first version and even more so looking foward to the version number 10.
Most notible added features in the tool are the new Age and Gender demographics but I am really happy with is the Interest Group Catagories. Here Dennis Mortensen and his team at Yahoo! Web Analytics has designed a set of categories which enable the user to form a better profile of visitors to their site. The Interest Categories reports are used to show the most common Interest Groups site visitors belong to. Another “new” feature, or I should say upgraded feature is the visitor click Path analysis it’s looking much much better. It’s actually usefull now.
Yes, sir, here is a scenario: “The top result is now pointing to some proxy redirect page. Our website itself has not been hacked. It is just the Google search results are hijacked! But the damage is done.”
This has been recently confirmed by Google’s John Muller and according to him the Google team is working hard to deal with the problem but it might still be some time until it’s fully fixed and visible in all Google data-centers. Source: Google Webmaster Help
According to a recent PriceWaterhouseCoopers research Internet advertising is beating all other advertising media in Denmark. Denmark is the first country in the world where the Internet takes over TV for example. Berlinske reports.
Jakob Nielsen just wrote a really good article on designing and using data to back it up. In short he found that 100% of the designers who provided external data were right, whereas 25% of the designers who relied on their personal opinion were right.
This underlines the importance of using data and analytics when you are desinging a web site and in designing in genereal.
Air France Google Trends
One of the most dynamic ways of communicating to the masses ASAP is through Google PPC, a great sample of that is the crash of the Air France Airbus plane flying from Brazil to France. The plane goes down after 300 KM and news start to spread.
As a part of an PR crisis strategy Air France should have gone out and paid for customized message for their brand search, dealing with questions like; Is it safe to fly with Air France’ and/or How can I find information about the crash?
Using the same method, Airbus could have dealt with people frighten to fly with Airbus planes, answering questions like is flying with Airbus planes save?
As one of those that fly frequantly but are not comfortable flying I was one of the first looking for anwers like the above and I do belive that I was not the only person. Check Google Trends http://www.google.com/trends?q=air+france&ctab=0&geo=all&date=mtd&sort=0 to back my case.
