Interviewed at State of Search

Great to meet Bas van den Beld as always and congratulations to him on State of Search!

The question of a white hat or a black hat

Just came from a session at the SES called Black hat/White hat “Unconferenced” hosted by Matt McGowan, Publisher & head of U.S. Incisive Media and Mike Grehan, Global VP Content, SES/Search Engine Watch and ClickZ (believe they are merging). Everyone that came to this session was offered a white hat or a black hat to wear, in my case I got the black.

Not that I am a black hat in the sense that I use under the radar none ethical tactics when marketing online, nobe more because that the size of the black hat fitted my head better. Great session that taught me black hats have bigger heads than white hats or that Matt and Mike did not order enough hats for people with big heads, either way fantastic session and great fun!

SES New York the mother of the mother of all conferences RIMC

Reykjavik Internet Marketing Conference (RIMC) was actually born out of me not having the budget to go to SES New York in 2000 or 2001. Now some ten years later hundreds of guests from over ten countries have attended RIMC and the next event looks very promishing with around 200 attendees, some 15 speaker from companies like Ericsson, Microsoft, Anomaly, Icelandair and CCP games to mention few.

I am myself speaking at Search engine strategjes in NY on two sessions and it looks like it’s going to be a great event

Back from SMX Stockholm and SMX New York

Both search engine marketing programs were in my opinion great events giving insight into the world of Internet Marketing, in New York I moderated two sessions, one on in-house SEO and another on Amazing PPC Tactics. Both really good sessions. At the SMX NY I also talked at a really interesting session called “Iran & Michael Jackson: What Marketers Can Learn From How Consumers Search For Current Events” were I took the United Airlines emergency landing case study, reaction of journalists and other stakeholders and how we maped the news about this happening throughout the internet. Winning Formulas To Maximise The Potential Of Twitter

Sitting here at the SMX Stockholm and just got this email:

“With an increasing number of people turning to Twitter, are you maximising the endless possibilities that it has to offer your brand? Do you know how to practically use Twitter to your advantage? Capitalise on the hype behind Twitter and gain a ‘how to’ guide on making the most out of this platform to successfully reach your target audience, whilst unlocking the cash value of tweeting.”

Yes, sir – This is what I get into my inbox. They are offering me to go to this conference, should I?

What happened to Internet Marketing Ninjas?

I am here at SMX Stockholm, went to the internetmarketingninjas.com site and fot this: “We are no longer offering the Internet Marketing Ninjas program“. The Ninjas are used by many for Link-building research but they are now closed. I tried to look into it but I could not find out why, so if you know pls. post.

Other tools that are still open for those that used to have Marketing Ninjas as their tool, are SEOmoz, Yahoo! Site Explorer and MAjestic SEO to mention some.

SMX Stockholm 2009 draws near

One of my favourite conferences and locations of such events is the SMX in Stockholm, it’s not only a great event and Stockholm is also a city well worth visiting, with the old charming town and the river running through it.

The conference is great, it is small (200 – 300 people) and of very high quality. This means that you are close to the speakers, have more access and in my experience get the value needed to justify the effort. Read more »
